
Start your engines and mark your calendars now for this year's exciting Pinewood Derby The will be in the Duncanville Church of Christ Gymnasanctatorium. Check-in and car weighing will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. There will be no late check-ins available.
In addition to being judged on their speed during the Derby, all cars will be judged in the following award categories at the Pinewood Derby Finals:

Best Cub Scout Theme
Most Unusual Design
Most Authentic Looking Race Car Design

Remember: No precut kits will be allowed to compete in the racing or the judging. Paint, decals, accessory trim pieces, and weights are allowed. For more information, contact your den leader.

Inspection: Cars will be inspected during registration for compliance with the specifications below. Cars that fail will not be permitted to race unless corrected to specifications.

Impoundment: Once cars have been registered, weighed, and certified, they will remain in the hands of race committee until the end of the competition. Just to clarify, all cars will be impounded when registered. Cars will not be returned until the end of the race. After being impounded, all repairs will be managed entirely by the pit crew.

Miscellaneous rules:

Because of possible damage to the cars and track, there will be no running, pushing, yelling, etc. in the building.

Violators will be disqualified.

No food or drinks are allowed in the gymnasium.

Scouts and all other spectators must remain behind the tape.

Seats will be set up to allow spectators to see the race.

The starter will make sure the cars are on the track properly and then will start the race.

Results will be recorded at the finish line.

If a car leaves the track, runs out of its lane, interferes with another car, loses an axle, etc., the heat will be rerun. If the same car gets into trouble on the second run, the contestant is disqualified and automatically loses that race. If, on the second run, another car is interfered with, the heat will be run a third time, but without the disqualified car.

Cars constructed for previous Pinewood Derbies are not eligible to compete.
CAR SPECIFICATIONS

Body: The body in the official BSA Pinewood Derby Kit, supplied by the Pack, must be used. Bodies of other materials will be disqualified. The body may be shaped, hollowed out, or built up from the original block as long as it meets all other specifications. Any additions to the original body (drivers, decals, paint, weights, etc.) must be firmly attached.

Dimensions: The car width at the wheels may not be modified. It must be the same as the original kit and follow the printed rules provided with each car.

Width: Overall width shall not exceed 2-3/4".

Length: Overall length shall not exceed 7".

Wheels: Wheels and axles must be as furnished in the official kit. No washers, bushings, bearings, rubber tubing, or springs are allowed. Use only Official Scout Grand Prix wheels and axles. You can polish the axles. You may lightly sand the wheels to remove the molding seam on the tread. No other wheel changes are allowed.

Weight: The weight of the race-ready car must not exceed five (5) ounces (141.7grams). Weight will be measured using the official scales when the car is registered. All car parts and materials must be firmly attached.

Lubricant: Graphite is the only approved lubricant! No lubricants may be applied once the cars are registered and impounded.

Car Numbers: Assigned numbers must be permanently attached (paint, labels, permanent marker, etc.). Assigned numbers must be clearly visible (they cannot be on the bottom only). Other numbers may appear on the car, but the assigned number must be visible. Car number labels with assigned numbers will be handed out at the registration desk.

Other: Cars must freewheel with no stored energy or movable weights. There is no designated front or back to the supplied body: either end may be the front.

Sportsmanship: Scouting encourages good sportsmanship. Cars will be disqualified if the Scout or his parents display unsportsmanlike conduct on the race site.

Race track: Once the race track is setup, adjustments or repairs are to be supervised by race officials. Any parent or scout attempting any adjustment to the track without supervision by a race official will be disqualified.

Springing: The car shall not ride on any type springs.

Details: Details such as steering wheel, driver, decals, painting, or interior detail are permissible as long as these details do not exceed the maximum length, width, and height specifications.

Attachments: The car must be freewheeling with no starting devices.

Inspection: Each Car must pass inspection by the Race Officials before it may compete. Inspection will take place at registration. The Race Officials have the right to disqualify those cars which do not meet specifications by race time.
